Liberal Religion

Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religious tradition. Religious liberals gravitate toward beliefs and practices that are compatible with present-day knowledge, experience and culture, more than they adhere to beliefs from the past. Unlike religious orthodoxies, liberal religion adapts its forms of expression and its values to the changes in culture and society over time. Liberal religion seeks compatibility between religious perspectives and the continuing evolution of human understanding of our world through science and the social sciences. Religious scholar Paul Rasor puts it this way: “Liberals seek to keep their religious commitments culturally relevant and intellectually credible.”
