At this moment in history, much of the world’s attention is focused on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As we hear the stories of ongoing devastation, many of us are asking: What can I do? What can we do as a community to help those impacted? What is the one thing we can do for peace?
This past Sunday we gathered to grow peace. During our worship service, we created sunflower art in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, and planted sunflower seeds that we will transplant later this Spring outside. These actions are symbolic; but they are also real, as they remind us that peace begins with ourselves, develops in community, and extends into the world.
Next Tuesday evening I invite you to continue growing peace by joining with other faith communities in Stamford on Zoom for an Interfaith Prayer Service. I will be participating along with other religious leaders. Details about the service and guest speaker are in the eblast announcement below.
Beyond our art and our prayers, we can also contribute financially to help the people of Ukraine. A few weeks ago, several people did this through a benefit concert for a Ukraine Crisis Fund organized quickly by Elizabeth Jenkins-Sahlin and the UUC Social Souls which raised over $700! The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee has also set up an emergency relief fund to collect donations for Ukraine. UUSC works with local partners throughout the world to reach those impacted by crises who are marginalized and often left out of traditional relief efforts. You can donate and learn more about ways to help on the UUA website.
Let us continue to do what we can, as we are able, in both prayer and action.
In faith,
Rev. Terri
